Welcome from Pastor Carl

Pastor-Carl

Greetings!

Being pastor of Christ the Servant Lutheran Church energizes me!  I knew before I came here in 2008 that this was a progressive congregation proud of its place in the public square.  Being “The Church in The Shopping Center” is an identity the congregation claims with pride.  But when I arrived  -- it was even better than I expected!  I found an active group of people who were eager to welcome people of all races, walks of life, and gender identities.   On top of that I found people who were excited about worship and who already had a rich tradition of bringing lots of life to our traditional Lutheran liturgy.  One of the things which continues to intrigue me is the curiosity our members have about new and different ways of looking at tradition and doctrine.  Add to this mix a healthy measure of service to the hungry, homeless, and oppressed – and you have a congregation who truly lives its mission to “Celebrate, Think, and Serve.”  Come, be a part of a very good thing!

Welcome from Music Director

Staff director of music Joy Siddons

Christ the Servant is a worship-centered community where music helps us celebrate the things that count; Word and Sacrament, Grace through Faith, and Each Other! Our Chancel Choir and Bell Choir are small communities of faith themselves as they faithfully rehearse each week and enjoy fellowship with one another. Children, too, often help us celebrate by singing to us or accompanying on rhythm instruments. Through a vibrant music program we find that we can sing the traditional Lutheran liturgy in a way which lifts God’s goodness in fresh ways. We invite YOU to become a part of our music program.

Managing the church office is more than administering a long list of tasks and functions. It is a calling to help further the congregation’s mission to “Celebrate, Think, and Serve.” I enjoy working with the staff and members of our congregation, but most of all I enjoy serving the Lord’s commission to reach out to those in our community and beyond, particularly the disadvantaged in the Hunters Woods and greater Reston area. I share in the joy our congregation takes in service, fellowship, and worship.

Children are not just “the church of the future.” They are very much the church of today. I have been honored to work with the children of Christ the Servant for many years … so many that I now care for children of those I cared for when I first started! Jesus said, “Permit the little children to come to me.” I invite you to come to church as a family. Children of all ages are welcome in worship, but if you need to use the nursery I would be glad to care for your child.
